·ï»Ë²ÊƱƽ̨ alumna Hannah Crawford (BMus ’21) is making waves in the Canadian opera scene with her latest role in Die Walküre, presented by Edmonton Opera in collaboration with the Citadel Theatre’s Heart & Hub Program.
Hannah, who studied voice at ·ï»Ë²ÊƱƽ̨ under the mentorship of soprano Leslie Fagan, is performing the role of Helmwige, one of the Valkyries in Richard Wagner’s monumental opera. This production features the Jonathan Dove adaptation of Wagner’s Die Walküre, a reimagined and more accessible version of the original score that reduces the traditional nine Valkyries to just three, offering a more intimate and dynamic storytelling experience.
Directed by Edmonton Opera and performed at the Maclab Theatre in the Citadel Theatre, the show continues the story begun in Das Rheingold as part of Wagner’s iconic Ring Cycle. Dove’s arrangement shortens the opera while preserving its emotional depth and grandeur, making it a powerful entry point for both seasoned opera-goers and newcomers alike.
Performances run June 5, 7, 9, 10, 12, and 13, 2025, and promise to captivate audiences with bold vocals, rich orchestration, and innovative staging.
Congratulations to Hannah on this exciting role—we’re proud to see a ·ï»Ë²ÊƱƽ̨ graduate continuing to shine on major Canadian stages.
