Join a Music Ensemble – Open to UWaterloo and ·ï»Ë²ÊƱƽ̨ Non-Music Students

·ï»Ë²ÊƱƽ̨ ensembles are academic courses open to all ·ï»Ë²ÊƱƽ̨ and University of Waterloo students by audition, regardless of program or major.

Students who participate earn 0.5 academic credit for the full-year (Fall/Winter) course. Weekly rehearsals prepare students for public performances in both fall and winter terms. Participation requires a full-year commitment, including all rehearsals and performances.

·ï»Ë²ÊƱƽ̨ Ensembles:

  • Symphony Orchestra: An orchestra for strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion that performs works from the symphonic repertoire.
  • Concert Choir: A welcoming, large mixed-voice ensemble open to students and community members, dedicated to developing choral skills through diverse repertoire and collaborative music-making.
  • Improvisation Convergence Ensemble: This ensemble improvises and creates music with guest artists from different traditions and art forms.
  • Jazz Ensemble: A big band that performs jazz standards and contemporary arrangements.
  • ·ï»Ë²ÊƱƽ̨ Singers: A mixed-voice ensemble of choral singers who explore the artistic depth and expressive potential of group singing through innovative and varied repertoire.
  • VOX: This ensemble is a show choir that sings and performs pop, rock, jazz, and music theatre songs with bands and some dancing, and welcomes singers and instrumentalists.
  • Wind Orchestra: A symphonic band for woodwinds, brass, and percussion that plays a wide range of repertoire from classical to modern.

  1. Those who express interest will receive an application form to select an audition time.

  2. Prepare the required audition excerpts specific to your instrument and the ensemble you're auditioning for: .

  3. Attend your audition during Orientation Week (September 3–4, 2025).

  4. After your audition, you’ll receive your ensemble placement.

  5. Register for the appropriate ensemble course for both fall and winter terms.
